ABOUT BOARDRIDING MAUI
BRM is much the same today as when it launched in 2012. It’s still way out on the future fringes of riding evolution and remains true to the design and development of ultra-performance gear that challenges conventions.
From the beginning, BRM has approached product development differently. Instead of adding complexity, the focus has been on removing it. The best equipment often comes from simplifying a design until only the essential elements remain.
BRM created the first strutless kite and parawing designs, and continues to refine the concepts with the same goal — building equipment that feels lighter, more efficient, and more intuitive to ride.
Everything we build follows one simple idea:

From the founder
I fell in love with windsurfing at age 12, when my family moved near a lake. To be on the water, feel a breeze in my sail and the splash under my board; this was my heaven.
At 16 years old, I started my lifetime’s work in the industry at the lake’s local windsurf shop.
The sport of kiteboarding emerged shortly after I moved to Maui in 1998. In 2001, I achieved a 4th place competition season ranking on the Kiteboarding World Tour. The following ten years, during the formative, peak-growth years of kiting, I worked as a designer for Naish International, before founding Boardriding Maui in 2012.
My life today, with the love my wife and our family & friends, having Boardriding Maui to share the gear that I’m passionate about, is my dream-come-true.

OUR HISTORY
Where it all began
Launched the sport's first strutless kite, the BRM Cloud, founding a segment of lower-weight kites performing for much lighter riding power levels.
Hydrofoil focus
Refocused all development specifically for hydrofoiling
Awarded Best Kitesurfing Video
The only hydrofoil video to receive the award by International Kitesurf Magazine. It extended foiling beyond just racing, defining the character of strapless freestyle.
Built for the foil
Launched the sport's first kite designed specifically for hydrofoil riding — the BRM C.5 Cloud — beginning a lineage that continues with the BRM E4 today.
The wing era
Launched BRM’s first inflatable wing, followed by several rounds of updates, with innovations including carbon fiber hybrid-construction handles and performance progression including moderate-tension canopy.
The parawing is born
Created the first parawing, launching performance revolutions in downwind and foilsurf riding.
Second generation of parawings
Three dedicated single skin models — the Maliko 2, Ka'a, and Kanaha — and the Paia double skin, each refined for a distinct riding discipline and skill level.
Redefining single skins with the S3
Advanced the performance and comfort of the single skin parawing with the S3 model.

When we introduced the first parawing with this video in 2024, we never imagined how quickly it would inspire riders around the world to embrace this new category. It’s been amazing to see the growth and the passion as more and more riders discover what’s possible with a parawing.
